Some telephone problems do not require a technician. If your telephone is not operating properly, here are a few tips to help you troubleshoot the problem.
- Unplug any cordless phones and plug a corded phone into the jack to determine if there is a service problem or if your cordless phone has malfunctioned. If you hear dial tone, the problem is in the cordless phone.
- Look for a Network Interface Device (NID). If a NID is available, you will find it outside at the point where the telephone lines enter your home or business. Plug a working telephone into the jack in the NID. If you hear dial tone, the line coming to the house is good and the problem is either in the house wiring or one of your telephones. If you do not hear dial tone, call our office as soon as possible so that a technician can find and remedy the trouble.
If dial tone is heard at the NID, subscribers have three choices for repairing the inside wiring.
- The problem can be fixed by our technicians. There will be a charge for inside wiring repair unless the subscriber has a Line Maintenance Service Agreement. Line Maintenance Service is provided for a small monthly charge on your bill. If Line Maintenance Service is not started at the time of install, a $50 one-time fee applies. For more information about Line Maintenance Service, call your customer service representative at 1-800-332-2624.
- Hire an independent repair person.
- Repair the problem yourself.
